Diet Tips

With These Tips, You Can Lose Weight Easily And Safely!

You want to lose weight and I'd be willing to bet you're going about it all wrong.

You've been told that you should eat certain foods, in certain proportions and exercise like crazy.  So you start to read the diet ads that are all over your TV, your paper, magazine and the internet when the whole point is not what you eat but how much of it you are eating.

The most basic change that you must make and the easiest to accomplish is to eat less.

Sounds really simplistic doesn't it? But one of the things that have caused your overweight status is getting in the habit of eating too much.  It's so very easy to do.  We are encouraged everywhere we turn to consume more. Restaurant portions are for the most part, huge. And all of the visuals we see and the recommendations being made are to consume ever more. Take a muffin of 5 years ago - it probably had 200 calories.  same muffin today 500 calories.

Cut your portion size by 10, 15 or 30 percent and I guarantee you will lose weight. Add a similar percentage to your current exercise regimen and I guarantee you'll find it easier to lose weight and you'll feel better. (As you add to muscle mass, you will increase your metabolic rate and lose weight, other things being equal).

Now before you start saying thats too simple it can't work,  just think about it. Lets play the numbers game.  The average woman in the States is consuming about  1700 calories a day. Lets say she ups her consumption to 1800 calories a day ( an increase of only 6% or so. It really isn't much, is it? It's probably a bottle of soda drink or a donut every other day.  Mentioning no names, a plain donut is about 185 calories and a chocolate iced one is over 420!

Let's suppose you add a soda or a donut to your consumption just twice a week. Just a little snack!  That's say 500 calories more a week.  What will it do to your weight in a year if we assume that 1700 calories a day is the balance to amintain your weight at it's current level. At the end of the year you will be 7 lbs. heavier.

The converse is also true.

So Tip number one is eat less to lose weight. Don't go crazy with starvation approaches, elimination of foods that you like, yo-yo binging and fasting etc. Just put less on your plate.

Tip number 2. Weigh your self daily.

Tip number 3 Keep a food diary.

Tips number 2 and 3 should be your new daily regimen.  The daily weighing and recording will keep your focus on your goal weight and your progress.  Don't worry about temporary weight gains and plateauing.  Both are normal.  Once you have a solid track record in your diary you will be able to recognize what to worry about and what to ignore

Tip number 4. Begin a daily exercise regimen. If you can join a buddy so much the better.  The exercise does not have to be complex. Walking is one of the best.  If it's raining or freezing out do the walk at the Mall and then go shopping.  Careful about the donut shop or the cinnamon bun store.
